I've used The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band previously and knew they were absolutely fabulous so contacted them as soon as I was engaged to play at my wedding (Rosslea Hall, Rhu, August 2022). They are absolutely fantastic, very reasonably priced and do such a good job of getting everyone up on that dance floor. We booked the 3 piece band and they were so professional, arrived on time and set up flawlessly. Craig was open to my suggestions for dances and got all our English relatives up on that floor. There is no denying a ceilidh is the best thing for a wedding and The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band are 100% the best ceilidh band in Central Scotland. The music is incredible and Craig is an amazing caller, really explaining the dances and getting people involved, highly recommend.

We all had a very good night (Glasgow, March 2019). Thank you for the great music and many thanks to Alex who guided us in French through all the fun dances!

The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band played for our wedding in 2002 and then again last month for our joint 50th birthday ceilidh (Mayfield Centre, Stirling, February 2019). They are just as brilliant now as they were then! Any ceilidh that they play is guaranteed to be fantastic - they have a real knack of getting everyone dancing with their great range of dances, from old favourites to fun new ones. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I hired this band to play at my mums 70th birthday party (Kinross on 16th February 2019). They had been recommended to me and did not disappoint! We all had great fun dancing and the band were really good for talking us through any dances that we weren’t sure of. I’d definitely hire them again if we had another ceilidh and I’d recommend them to anyone.

The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band are absolutely brilliant and I would recommend them to anyone. My family have organised a ceilidh most years since 2008 and they have played at every single event. Well done Skelpit Lugs, keep up the great work!

We all had a great night for our fundraising ceilidh (Robert Douglas Memorial Institute, Scone on 23 November 2018). The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band provided the music for the dancing, taking time to tell the not so experienced of us how to join in. Great entertainers and highly recommended.

Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band played for our wedding (Gartocharn Hall on 30 June 2018) and they were absolutely fantastic. The band were so helpful providing us with information and advice ahead of the event, they were so flexible and accommodating, and made us feel totally relaxed and at ease throughout. The team are hugely talented performers and really made the evening atmosphere of our wedding. We can't recommend them highly enough, if you are considering them for your special event, absolutely go for it! Thank you so much Skelpit Lug!

Skelpit Lug played at our ruby wedding celebration (Ecclesmachan Village Hall on 24 March 2018) and they were really great. They played a mixture of old favourite dances as well as teaching us all some new ones. A brilliant band which was enjoyed by us all and we would recommend them to anyone looking for a ceilidh band.

What can I say but thank you so very much for what was without a doubt, the best Hogmanay ever! (Logie Church Hall, Stirling on 31 December 2017). The band can make or break the night and you talented people totally made it! We’re all so in awe of how you catered the dances to fit the crowd from toddlers to adults so that almost all feet were on the floor the entire night. I really can’t say enough and would recommend you without reservation.

Just a small email to say thank you very much for playing at our ceilidh last night (Stirling Court Hotel on 30 November 2017) from both the trampoline and frisbee committees. The night was a roaring success and a big part of that was your wonderful band!

Thanks again for playing at my birthday party on Saturday night (Braeport Centre, Dunblane on 4 November 2017), the band played a great set, and really made the evening a big success. The music was lively, the dancing was great fun, and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We particularly enjoyed having the children up dancing and the band played some tunes and dances which the kids really enjoyed. Lots of our guests asked about the band, and everyone seemed very impressed. We certainly recommend the band to others.

Skelpit Lug were brilliant for our silver wedding celebration (Francis Xavier Church Hall, Falkirk on 28 October 2017) - great range of ceilidh music and managed to get all of our guests up and dancing - we have had lots of positive feedback from our friends and family of all ages and would be delighted to recommend the band to anyone.

We booked Skelpit Lug for our daughter’s wedding (Glenskirlie Castle, Banknock on 27 October 2017) having seen, heard and enjoyed their music and dances at previous events in and around Stirling. We knew what we were getting and were not disappointed.
The whole set was well thought out and the main parts agreed in advance such as the first dance, the last dance and the finale. I’ve never seen so many people dancing, we had to push back the tables to make the dance floor bigger. Guests from far and wide commented on the quality of the music and the great atmosphere that was created. The band played tunes to suit everyone and knew the dances we wanted and introduced us to a few more, all expertly ‘called’ when required. They really do know how to get people involved, a job well done.

Can you pass on our heartfelt thanks to all of the band for playing at our family gathering (Gartmore Village Hall, Aberfoyle on 23rd September 2017. Everything was perfect - the pace, the variety and the volume! Everybody had a fantastic time and really appreciated having a very patient caller.

Many thanks for playing at our anniversary party (Victoria Hall, Dunblane on 1st July 2017). We all had a fabulous time thanks to your excellent music! Also thank you again for your flexibility and adaptability - when it was clear that folks were initially more interested in catching up with old friends than dancing you adapted your set accordingly and then picked it up again later when they were more conducive to dancing! We have had many compliments on our choice of band and will certainly recommend you to others!

The band were easy to contact and sorted out all of our booking requirements. On the night (Glasgow Uni Union, 4th Feb) they played a great selection of dances for us including a spin on the Virginia Reel and a bespoke "Paddlers Jig" which was simple to learn and went down a storm with all of us kayakers. We all had a great night with them and wouldn't hesitate to book the band again.
A fundraising ceilidh was held recently at Bankfoot Church Centre (on 19 November 2016) with the music supplied by the excellent Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band who led us in some traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing and also introduced us to some interesting new ones. A very enjoyable evening was had by all.

Thank you Skelpit Lug for making our first Laurieston Tennis Club Presentation Night and Ceilidh such a success (Grangemouth Golf Club, 24 September 2016). Your superb music and expert choice of ceilidh dances along with Craig`s banter while instructing the dances ensured the floor was always filled with enthusiastic adults and children. We will certainly look to repeat and celebrate the occasion again next year. Thank you all.

We hired the Skelpit Lugs for our Scottish-Finnish wedding reception (Westlands Hotel, Dunblane, 17 September 2016). They exceeded our expectations by managing to teach the wedding party ceilidh dances as most of them had never been to a ceilidh before. The band tailored the dances to the ability of the group with nothing too complicated, but challenging enough to be lots of fun.
Thank you Skelpit Lugs!

A week on from our ceilidh (just about got over it now!) I wanted to say how much we appreciated the wonderful evening the Skelpit Lugs gave us (Victoria Hall, Dunblane, 10 September 2016). You made such a special effort to come early, work with the lighting restrictions, cope with the ever-changing birthday cake requirements and acknowledge the birthday girls in just the right way. Most importantly the music, dancing, calling (and a bit of banter) were brilliant and everyone has been saying it's the best ceilidh they have been to (high praise indeed!).

Just wanted to say thank you again for making my wife's 50th birthday party so special, (Birds and Bees Restaurant, Stirling, 28 August 2016). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, especially our family who travelled up from various parts of England.
The caller did a fantastic job in not only getting everyone involved but explaining, very clearly, the steps.

The Skelpit Lugs played for my husband Duncan's 40th birthday do (Doune Rural Hall, Sat 11 June 2016). Please book these guys for your next do - what a fantastic band! The calling was great, particularly through a more complicated dance that was tailor-made for us, Craig was so patient! The playing was sensitive and musical, and everyone was up at some point to dance because it was so enjoyable - quite a few people made the comment that it was the best ceilidh band they'd heard for ages. It made for a friendly, inclusive occasion and everyone from 3 to 300 enjoyed it immensely. Clearly an experienced and wonderful band.

The Skelpit Lugs were great at my 70th birthday party (Albert Hall, Stirling on 16 January 2016) . We had a wonderful party accompanied by the band. Many of the guests were new to ceilidh dancing, but the music and the calling were so good it just involved them all and I was really surprised to see so many up dancing away - and thoroughly enjoying themselves. You made it a memorable night.

Stevie and I just wanted to say thanks so much for doing the music at our wedding last Saturday (Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow on 21 November 2015.) You sounded great and I was delighted that so many people were up for, and enjoyed, the dancing, just as I'd hoped.

The band really made Stan's recent retirement ceilidh (at the Robert Douglas Memorial Institue, Scone on 21 August 2015) an enjoyable celebration, with a good mixture of slow and fast dances, including a few especially for the younger guests! Their direction enabled everyone to join in regardless of their knowledge of the dances. Would certainly be pleased to call upon the band again in future and would recommend to anyone looking for a good ceilidh.

The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band made my fundraising event a terrific night (at the Masonic Hall, Kincardine on 5 September 2015). As you talked us through the dances etc, the guests were eager to participate and the floor was always full. I need to come up with another reason to have a ceilidh as everyone enjoyed it so much. Your input was appreciated and actually made our night a success, the total raised for Vasculitis Charity was £2310. Thanks again for making our night great.

Our friends all thoroughly enjoyed themselves at our Ruby Wedding (at the Cathedral Hall, Dunblane, on Saturday 29th August 2015), despite most of them professing to be non-dancers. The fact that they could join in was largely due to the wonderful way you conduct a ceilidh, with enthusiasm and clarity of direction, and just the right amount of persuasiveness. There was a nice balance of gentle and more vigorous dances and many people commented on the great variety! Everyone enjoyed the music too, including those who couldn't dance, and there were comments as well on how refreshing it was to be able to talk - and hear - unlike at a disco. Please thank the band for making the evening such a great success.

Thanks to all the band for a great musical/dance celebration for our wedding reception (at the Montgomerie Hall, Eaglesham on 15th August 2015). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed dancing along to such wonderful music and the help you give to novice ceilidh dancers is great too.

Eveyone thoroughly enjoyed my birthday ceilidh (at Victoria Hall, Dunblane on 27th June 2015) and your interesting dances! The calling was great and your help was gratefully accepted on the floor. The Lug's ability to adjust to the ever changing format of the evening was greatly appreciated and the finale was perfect. I would happily recommend the band to anyone.

Skelpit Lug are a top class ceilidh band. They not only played well at our wedding (at Stirling Rugby Club on 11 April 2015), but they got the guests dancing, and with their sense of humour and ability they were able to cajole the non dancers into enjoying themselves.

Having experienced the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band on a number of occasions at previous events, I had no hesitation in booking them to play at my husband's 50th birthday party (at Strathallan Castle on 17th January 2015) and they proved very popular with both young and old alike. I would highly recommend them.

I would recommend the Skelpit Lugs without any hesitation, great playing and attention to detail in setting up (8th November 2014 at Blairdrummond Village Hall). They have a good variety of dances in their programme, they call the dances encouraging the dancers to take to the floor and making sure they have a fantastic experience.

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to you all for the most wonderful ceilidh music on Saturday (August 23rd 2014, at Dunblane).
So many people have been in touch to say what a good night they had and they have all commented on how brilliant the band was! I have been referring you right, left and centre so thank you again!
I really appreciated all the fun new dances you talked everyone through - such a great mix of music, tempo and chat - you judged it just right and kept the party swinging!

We were looking for a ceilidh band for our wedding (Victoria Hall, Dunblane, August 16th 2014) and the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band was recommended to us. From the first contact to the end of the last dance the band were FANTASTIC. Craig could not have been more helpful and accommodating and made this part of the wedding planning easy, straightforward and stress-free which was much appreciated. All of our guests had a brilliant time, even those who had never danced before! The band made sure that everyone knew the steps and had good fun at the same time. I would highly recommend the Lugs, they are excellent, value for money and worth every penny. We will look out for them and hopefully have the chance to see them play again in the future.

We booked the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band for my wife's 70th birthday party at the Golden Lion Hotel, Stirling, after only seeing internet video clips so was slightly apprehensive. I shouldn't have worried, it turned out to be an inspired choice. The music was brilliant with excellent timing that made dancing so easy. Everyone who attended commented about how good the band were. I can honestly say the band made the evening special and I would definitely book them again.

Katherine and I thoroughly enjoyed your performance at our wedding reception last month at the Braid Hills Hotel, Edinburgh (as did all of our guests), so much so that we have decided to have a celebratory ceilidh on the 25th of October next year, and we would very much like it if you could play!
I booked Skelpit Lug for my 50th birthday at Linlithgow Burgh Hall. They were ideal for the occasion - the music was excellent, everybody loved the dancing and lots of my friends said what a great ceilidh band I had booked.

The Lugs were amazing with our visiting family (some from Canada), teaching them the dances and doing the calling. And their friendliness and patter was, like their playing, excellent! They really made our special night at Pollock Halls, Edinburgh, even more special - we're so glad they came!

This is just to say thanks again for performing at my 18th birthday ceilidh last Saturday at the Braeport Centre, Dunblane - you were all fantastic and it wouldn't have been the same without the music of the Skelpit Lugs to dance to. There were certainly more people on the floor than I've often seen at ceilidhs so you must take the credit for your music being so catchy that everybody clearly wanted to dance. All I can say is thank you very much for playing, and I hope to hear you all playing again in future.

Thank you so much for making the party go so well. The music was fabulous and everyone loved it, but what really made the night was the way in which you and the band picked up on the mood and did so much more than provide music - you really carried out a master of ceremonies role and it was very much appreciated.
Morag Watt Event Organiser 12th November 2012
Everyone had a really wonderful evening and I think the key to the evening was your playing. So thank you so much!
It was a really energetic evening but we really appreciated that Craig seemed to read everyone's mood so well to help us dance our feet off when we wanted and then have a short break before you had us reeling around the floor again.
Heather Milne Surprise party recipient 9th July 2012
After reading all the testimonials on their website we were sure the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh band would do a great job at our wedding and they did not let us down. Despite not knowing the venue (Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh), they arrived, set up and were good to go well ahead of schedule. We had seven different nationalities at our wedding, the majority had never been at a Ceilidh before, so Craig's language skills (and unwavering patience) were brilliant! We would certainly recommend the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band to anyone who will listen.

The Skelpit Lug Ceilidh band produced a foot-tapping, hand-clapping night of dancing at Perth Academy to the delight of all involved. The band are very accomplished and led the night with gusto, resulting in even the most reluctant of patrons’ joyful participation. From the first dance to the final Orcadian Strip the Willow, it was a huge success.

Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS to all the members of the Skelpit Lug band for playing at our school last Friday (16th March 2012). This was the first ceilidh held at St. Modans High School with ambitious plans to raise funds for our Duke of Edinburgh pupils. An absolutely fabulous evening was had by all, with parents and staff commenting regularly on how enjoyable an evening they had, particularly with regard to the band being so great. Your contribution was very much appreciated and we look forward to booking you again for next year. Thanks once again.

Thank you Skelpit Lugs for taking part in the reception at the Dunmar House, Alloa, on 6th August at the wedding of Sarah and Robert. Everyone had a great time. I appreciated your music, talking us through the dances in a relaxed manner and your selection of dances. You were also sensitive to the lady who fell during a dance and coped with it very well. Thanks.

I would like to give my warmest thanks to the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band for playing some excellent music at our Civic Reception on the 21April 2011 in the Royal George Hotel. It was a very special night as we were celebrating the 20th anniversary of the twinning agreement between Perth and the town of Cognac in France.
There were over 30 French visitors, many of whom spoke little English. They were delighted to be given directions and led through the dances by Craig, who speaks very good French. This ensured that everyone, French and Scots, took part in the dances and that the Ceilidh was very successful indeed.
I am very happy to recommend the Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band for any big occasion, but especially if there is a significant French contingent.
Dr John Hulbert Provost of Perth and Kinross 14th June 2011
Many thanks to the Skelpit Lugs for playing for our group at the Stirling Management Centre on Saturday (4th June 2011) - the Lugs managed to get even the die-hard wallflowers and novices up and dancing, and folk really enjoyed themselves! One of our number video-ed the Shetland wedding reel and posted it up on the ITI ScotNet website, to general hilarity.

We recently hired the Skelpit Lugs for our Senior Christmas Dance on December 22nd 2010 at McLaren High School and we could not have asked for a better band. Their toe tapping material got everyone up dancing and provided great entertainment for the whole night. The music was very upbeat and enjoyable, with clear instructions which got both pupils and teachers filling the floor and made the evening even more amazing. We would recommend the Skelpit Lugs to anyone looking for a fantastic ceilidh band.

The Skelpit Lugs played at our wedding reception at Ashfield village hall on 20th November and they were truly magnificent. The music they play is great and they excel at getting all of the guests up and on to the dance floor by giving clear instructions. We had guests from many different countries at the reception and all of them commented on what good fun they had, and how they would love to ceilidh dance again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Skelpit Lugs to anyone!

The Skelpit Lugs were great (Sloan's, Glasgow on 10th October 2010). Got the crowd in the mood for dancing right away, and with great humour called out with dance steps when needed and added a bit of song for variety. More than one of our guests said it was the best 21st party they had been to.

We booked the Skelpit Lugs for our wedding on 22nd May 2010 at Houston House Hotel. The band were excellent with detailed calling for our friends from south of the border who didn't have a clue where to start. They added greatly to a brilliant day and the help with the special Gay Gordons was very much appreciated. We'd recommend them to anyone.

A truly excellent band - great musicality, lots of enthusiasm and plenty of help to get the dances going (ceilidh for visiting German choir at the Salutation Hotel, Perth, 3rd September 2010). A nice varied programme of traditional dances with a few new ones to add to the fun. Everything was organised with minimum fuss - very professional. I will certainly be recommending this band in the future.

We are delighted that we chose to have the Skelpit Lugs play at our wedding in Murrayshall House Hotel near Perth (20th August). From the moment they started playing till the last dance everyone had a ball ! We have had rave reviews from many of our guests and have no hesitation in recommending the band to others planning a function.
We booked the Skelpit Lugs for a (civil partnership celebration at Napier University, Edinburgh, 1st August) on a recommendation and were delighted with them. They got everyone on the dance floor immediately, where they stayed for the night. The calling for our friends who had never been at a Ceilidh made the dancing fun and ensured we had a fantastic evening. We would highly recommend the band for any occasion.
Dave & Peter, 2nd August 2010
We're back from honeymoon and just wanted to say a huge thank you for the band's performance on our wedding day (16th April at the Scores Hotel, St Andrews).
I think before the big day you mentally prepare a tick list of how you hope things will go on the day and hope the band achieve half of what you'd like, but the Skelpit Lugs ticked the lot! Everybody, and I mean everybody, capable of dancing was up and loving it. The ceilidh newcomers are all trying to work out a way they can get themselves to another Ceilidh and it seemed to be a great way of mixing everyone together as they now appear to all be friends with each other despite a lot of them not having met before the wedding day.
Whilst I think a lot of them were tired out by the time the Lugs finished up, they'd have all happily carried on for another two hours given the chance.
As well as the newcomers there were some seasoned pros to the ceilidh dancing and they were equally impressed with the Lugs.
The atmosphere the band created with the calling was also exactly spot on as we had hoped, with everyone quickly realising that they were allowed to get things wrong and that this only adds to the fun. I think this was a huge factor in making sure that everyone was up and dancing.
I'd be happy to be contacted by anyone who wants a reference for Skelpit Lug in the future and would assure them that they'd definitely be picking the right band for their event.
Many thanks once again, please keep 16th April 2060 free in the band's schedule for our Golden Wedding anniversary!

Can you please pass on to the band a huge thank-you from myself and Neil for the Skelpit Lugs' performance at our wedding (at the People's Palace Winter Gardens, Glasgow, 20th March 2010). The Skelpit Lugs were truly fantastic when they played at the memorable ceilidh I had for my 16th birthday (at the Reid Memorial Church Hall, Edinburgh 6th February 2010). They were invaluable and ensured that the evening was a great success. The band's variety of music was amazing and as well as including all the well known dances they introduced a couple of fun new dances. I play accordion myself and the band made sure to include some of my favourite tunes as well as inviting me up onto the stage to play with them which is something I will never forget. The band members were very friendly and they really brought their own warmth to the evening. They are great musicians and I hope to have the opportunity to book them again.

We would all like to thank you and your band for making the girls birthday party (Loch Venachar, 16th January 2010) a great success. I was a bit worried how the night would pan out seeing there was such a wide range of ages attending, from 10 years to 80 years. Everyone had a wonderful time and many commented on how everyone mixed and really enjoyed themselves. A huge part of this was your encouragement to get everyone on the dance floor and great tunes.
A big thank you once again.

Thank you very much to you and your band for providing such great music at our wedding at Oxenfoord Castle (18th September 2009). All the guests enjoyed the dancing and we certainly enjoyed the different dances that you slipped in between the traditional ones.

Many thanks for such a great event (Stirling Indoor Bowling Centre, 9th October 2009) full of entertainment, fun and first class music. You were great at getting folks involved in the dancing. Everyone had a fantastic time! It was definitely the event we wanted - actually, even better!!!! Looking forward to next year's ceilidh!

Just to say how much we enjoyed the wedding on Saturday (Beechwood Scout Hall, Stirling, 25th September 2009), and thanks so much for providing such great music. It just goes to show that you don't need a posh hotel to have a great wedding, just a good band and lots of people willing to have a ball. We certainly had a ball!
